Last Thursday, the book club members gave a short presentation on their favourite book. This was the book they think should win the Rotherham Book Awards. Our friends from St Alban’s joined us during the event after school. And we all enjoyed biscuits and buns during the break half way through the proceedings. There was some interesting debates as to which was the best book and presenters had the chance to answer lots of questions from the eager audience. We will decide the best book after the half term break to give everyone the chance of reading some more of them and making an informed decision!

Come on guys, let everyone know about the books you are reading.

I’m currently reading a new book by Michael Grant. He is an American author who has written lots of different types of books (and never using his real name!). I actually met him during the easter holidays and he is a really interesting guy. He has been all over America and had many different jobs – he even had a spell living under a motorway overpass!

Book Cover (Amazon.co.uk)

This book is awesome and sucks you in from the first page! Imagine you are sitting in your class one day listening to the teacher and they suddenly disappear in the blink of an eye. Not only that, anyone who is over the age of 14 also completely disappears. Children aged 14 and under are left…now imagine how you would feel? elated? happy?…those left must do all they can to survive. But everyone’s idea of survival is different. Some look after themselves, some look after others, and some will do anything for power…Even kill.

Without giving too much away the book has an XMen feel about it and also reminds me of Lord of the Flies (By William Golding)

Has anyone decided which is there favourite book? Don’t forget you need to be thinking about presenting your favourite book to the rest of the group on the 7th or 14th May. Mrs Price discussed ideas with you for the type of presentation you could do – think beyond powerpoint! There are lots of ideas on the spider diagram on the display board as you walk in the library.

Hopefully our friends at St Albans will be coming along also and may share their favourite book with you.

Hi everyone.
Hope you are having a good break. It’s fab to see so many comments about the books you have been reading. When we come back to school we will be finishing our book covers and discussing which book we think deserves to win. So carry on reading and have a think how you can persuade everyone to vote for the book you like the best! On Thursday 7th May we will be meeting in the main hall at WSSC to present our favourite book to each other. We decided it didnt have to be a Powerpoint, you might make up a rap or even produce a model/collage. The idea is that you get the main points across about why your book is the best.
